Fort of Chitradurga

The fort of Chitradurga is the first and foremost monument that ponders in to the mind of the tourists by the very mentioning of the name of this district. This strong fortress with 7 concentric ramparts is classified as “Giridurga” i.e. a Hill fort.

Nayakanahatti Temple

To really appreciate Chitradurga, you must stop by the Nayakanahatti Temple. This temple honours the well-known sage Thipperudraswamy and is located around 35 kilometres from the city centre. They say the sage's samadhi occurred here as well.

Dasaratha Rameshwara Temple

Dasaratha Rameshwara Temple is also known by the name of Varjra Temple locally. It is said that King Dasaratha built the temple to atone for the murder of his son Sant Shravana by constructing the temple.

Hiriyur

Chandravalli

The hills of Chitradurga, Cholagudda and Kirabanakallu form the valley of Chandravalli where archaeological excavations have been conducted. Earthenware, coins and painted bowls from the Hoysala, Satavahana and Vijayanagara kingdoms have all been uncovered here.

Vani Vilas Sagar Dam

Chitradurga is known for several tourist destinations, including the nearby Vani Vilas Sagar Lake and dam. It is the oldest dam in Karnataka and goes by the name Mari Kanive. The dam in Central Karnataka is not only a feat of engineering, but it also provides much-needed water to the surrounding arid areas.

Chitradurga Fort

In the Chitradurga region, one of the most visited landmarks is Chitradurga Fort or Chitaldoorg as the British named it. The Chalukyas, Hoysalas, Nayakas, and Rashtrakutas, four of the reigning dynasties at the time, constructed the fort in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Adumalleshwara Temple

Chitradurga is home to a number of tourist hotspots, including the Adumalleshwara Temple. It's around 5 kilometres from Chitradurga Fort. Those who worship Shiva will feel at home in this temple. The temple is accessible by both road and footpath. The trail is beautiful, with great vistas of the surrounding hills.
